I Quit My Job to Write

This was me in the thick of the pandemic on a “lunch” break. If anyone told me that 8 months later I would pull the plug on my 17 year career as a Respiratory Therapist, I wouldn’t believe them.

I officially put in my resignation on 5/20/21, and decided to go ahead and see what happens.

I made a list last night as the shock wore off. As much trauma as healthcare workers go through in their jobs, it was extremely hard for me to leave.

I sat on my floor with pen in hand and decided to give myself a 90 day countdown. I wrote in detail what I wanted to do within the first 90 days of being unemployed. I have to say the dreamer in me went way into the galaxy of what I wanted for my new life. I set my goals in bite size form with specific days as deadlines for each. I wrote so many things down for me to accomplish in the first 90 days and this was one of them.

I’ve been writing since I could hold a crayon. It’s always been my way of feeling grounded and a part of something universal. I believe everyone has amazing life stories and I have many. My intention for my medium writing is to inspire and to share what and how I made my dream of being a writer a reality.

Most, I’d say 80% of the medical professionals I’ve worked with have considered quitting their jobs on a daily basis. The responsibilities of family, mortgages, car…
